Sergeant Major Eric J. Stockton
Sergeant Major Eric Stockton was born in Boston Massachusetts.
He entered the Marine Corps on June 19, 1983 and attended Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation from Recruit Training, he proceeded to Fort Bliss, Texas, where he underwent training to become a Redeye gunner.
In December of 1983, he was ordered to Okinawa, Japan for duty with 1st FAAD Btry, MACG-18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. During his tour with FAAD Btry, he was assigned as assistant gunner and team leader. In January of 1984, Lance Corporal Stockton was transferred to Cherry Point, North Carolina to serve with 2nd LAAD Bn as a team leader.
In December of 1988, Sergeant Major Stockton received orders to Marine Security Guard Battalion, Quantico, Virginia as a student. Upon graduation, Sergeant Stockton was assigned as a watch stander at American Embassy Moscow, U.S.S.R. This tour was followed by assignments at Sao Paulo, Brazil and Quito, Ecuador.
In January of 1993, Sergeant Stockton was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and transferred to Okinawa, Japan for a tour of duty with 1st Stinger Battery, where he served as platoon sergeant, platoon commander, and the battery S-2 officer.
In August of 1996, Staff Sergeant Stockton received orders to Drill Instructor School, Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation, he was assigned duties as a drill instructor in 2d Recruit Training Battalion. During this time, he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Series Gunnery Sergeant. In December of 1998, then GySgt Stockton was selected to serve as a squad instructor at Drill Instructor School until September 2000. While serving as a squad instructor, Sergeant Major Stockton taught uniforms and the Standing Operating Procedures (SOP) package.
In January of 2000, Gunnery Sergeant Stockton attended the Advance Course at Camp Geiger, North Carolina where he graduated as the class Honor graduate.
In September of 2000, Gunnery Sergeant Stockton was transferred to MACG-18, 1st MAW were he served as the Squadron GySgt, and 1stSgt for the MACG-18 headquarters. He served in this capacity until his selection for 1stSgt in April of 2001, whereupon he was transferred and assigned as First Sergeant of Engineer Equipment Instruction Company, Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood Missouri.
In November of 2004 1stSgt Stockton was transferred to 3D Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California, whereupon he was assigned as the H&S company 1stSgt and later deployed with Company B to Iraq.
In May 2006, SgtMaj Stockton was promoted to his present rank and assigned as the battalion SgtMaj for 5th Battalion, 11th Marines.
In June 2009, SgtMaj Stockton was transferred to H&S Battalion MCRD Parris Island for duty as the battalion Sergeant Major.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
