Col. Robert A. Sucher

 

Colonel Robb Sucher was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1996.

From March 1997 until April 2000, Lieutenant Sucher was a Rifle Platoon Commander, Weapons Platoon Commander, and Company Executive Officer for India Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines. During this time he completed two MEU(SOC) deployments throughout the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf.

While assigned to Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group, Twentynine Palms, California from May 2000 to August 2003, Captain Sucher led the “Coyotes” in training of combined arms and FiST procedures, and attended the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course at MAWTS–1.

After graduating from Expeditionary Warfare School in 2004, Captain Sucher reported to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion where he deployed twice in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM; one deployment as the Assistant Operations Officer and one deployment as a Company Commander.

In September 2006, Major Sucher transferred to MAGTF Staff Training Program (MSTP). From September 2006 to July 2008, Major Sucher worked with each of the three Marine Expeditionary Forces for real-world contingency planning. During this period, Major Sucher completed Command and Staff College Nonresident Program where he was a Distinguished Graduate.

After completing the School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW), Major Sucher transferred to the Pentagon where he served as a Strategic Analyst at the Strategic Initiatives Group from May 2009 to July 2010 and then Speechwriter for the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. In March of 2011, Major Sucher became the Director of the Commandant’s Staff Group and lead speechwriter to the 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps. Simultaneously, he completed the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI Fellowship.

In September 2011, Major Sucher deployed to Afghanistan with Regimental Combat Team 8. Upon the Regiment’s return LtCol Sucher assumed the duties of Operations Officer where he served from January 2012 to May 2013.

In June 2013 LtCol Sucher became the Inspector – Instructor, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion where he led 4th LAR’s seven companies across six states from June 2013 until June 2015. After a successful command tour, LtCol Sucher attended Marine Corps War College, earning a Masters of Strategic Studies and reported to the Office of the Secretary of Defense – Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation.

In June 2018, Colonel Sucher reported to the MARCENT Coordination Element – Bahrain where he served as the OIC for all MARCENT Coordination Elements in the Middle East. After departing Bahrain in July 2019, Col Sucher reported to Headquarters Marine Corps for duty at Plans, Policies & Operations where he served as the Branch Head for both the Strategy Branch and the National War Plans Branch. In July 2021, he transferred to Programs & Resources to serve as the Branch Head for MAGTF Integration.

Colonel Sucher assumed command of Marine Barracks Washington “8th & I” on April 28, 2022.

In addition to his military degrees, Colonel Sucher earned a Masters of Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in June 2016.
