PHOTO ESSAY: 419th firefighters train on flight line

14 Jun 2010 | Staff Sgt. Kyle Brasier

Firefighters from the 419th Civil Engineer Squadron engaged in some intense training during an exercise in which a simulated unconscious pilot is trapped in an F-16 cockpit with the aircraft on fire. After extinguishing the simulated fire, firefighters manually opened the canopy. Once they were able to access the pilot, they released his harnesses and extracted him from the cockpit. Each member of the rescue team has an assigned position, whether it is to chock the aircraft, raise the canopy or pull out the pilot. The team trains regularly to prepare for real world situations.
