Body Bearers from Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., secure the casket of Cpl. William Ferrell in preparation of movement to Cross Hill Cemetery from the Carthage Fire Department, Carthage, NC, Oct. 8, 2015. On Sept. 29, 2015 Cpl. William Ferrell was struck by a vehicle and killed in Thurmont, Md. “The command is heartbroken by the loss of one of our own, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Cpl. William Ferrell,” said Col. Benjamin Watson, commanding officer, Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. “During this difficult time please know that William was a selfless Marine, and his actions reflect his strong and noble character, one that epitomizes a United States Marine.” Ferrell was a trained infantryman and Marine Corps security force guard. Ferrell graduated from basic training in Paris Island, SC in October 2012. After graduating from the School of Infantry in January 2013, he attended the Marine Corps Security Forces School, graduating April 2013. Immediately following graduation, Ferrell checked into guard company, Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. He was promoted to the rank of corporal, August 2014.
