Colonel Tyler J. Zagurski, commanding officer, Marine Barracks Washington D.C., cuts the first piece of traditional cake during the Marine Barracks Washington’s Ball at the Washington Hilton, Washington D.C., Nov. 18, 2017. By tradition, the first piece of cake is given to the guest of honor and the second piece is given to oldest Marine present, who then passes it off to the youngest Marine which symbolizes the passing of knowledge and tradition to the newer generation of Marines.
