Nov 3, 2017
The youngest Marine in attendance, Lance Cpl. Jesus Fajardo-Garcia, Marine Barracks Washington D.C., receives a piece of the traditional birthday cake from the oldest Marine present, former PFC. Morris Craig, original Montford Point Marine, during the National Defense University’s Marine Corps Birthday Ball at Fort McNair, Washington D.C., Nov. 2, 2017. It is customary that two pieces of cake are cut during the ceremony. One is for the guest of honor and the other is for the oldest Marine who then passes it to the youngest Marine, representing the passing of knowledge and traditions from one generation to the next.
