Lieutenant Colonel Giger was born on 1 March 1988 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Duquesne University and graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; concentration in Supply Chain Management.
Lieutenant Colonel Giger commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May of 2010 and reported to The Basic School (TBS). Upon completion of TBS he attended the Infantry Officer Course. His first Fleet Marine Force assignment was with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines where he was assigned to Company B as the Weapons Platoon Commander and Fire Support Team Leader.
In January 2012, Second Lieutenant Giger deployed to Kajaki, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In March he was reassigned as the Officer in Charge of Police Advisor Team Two where he would train and advise more than 160 Afghan Police. He was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant on 28 May 2012. Returning from deployment in August, First Lieutenant Giger transitioned to Weapons Company. He was assigned as the 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander and completed the Advance Mortarman Course in March of 2013. In February 2014, First Lieutenant Giger deployed to Okinawa, Japan as a part of the Unit Deployment Program. During this deployment his platoon was involved in bilateral Exercise Balikatan 14 and also trained at the Jungle Warfare Training Center. He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 June 2014.
In September 2014, Captain Giger reported to Maneuver Captains Career Course (MCCC) at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was selected, through a board process, to serve as the class Executive Officer for the duration of MCCC and graduated in March 2015. Captain Giger then reported to Marine Barracks Washington (MBW), D.C. and served as the Platoon Commander of Guard Company, 2d Platoon. In this role Captain Giger was responsible for training and mentoring Marines in the Presidential Support Program who would go on to guard the President of the United States. In January of 2016 he transitioned to Company B as the 2d Platoon Commander. He later assumed Command of Company B and served in that capacity from October 2016 to November 2017. He was then assigned as the Assistant Operations Officer during the 2018 Parade Season. He departed MBW in September of that year.
Captain Giger reported to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines in October of 2018 and took command of Headquarters and Service Company. He deployed in support of WTI/TALONEX 2-19 in March of 2019 and returned in May. In June of 2019 Captain Giger assumed command of Weapons Company. His company deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in December 2019. He was promoted to Major on 1 April 2020 and returned from deployment in July of 2020. Major Giger relinquished command of Weapons Company on 31 August 2020 and reported to Training and Education Command (TECOM) serving as an Action Officer within the Collective Training Branch, G-3. During this assignment he oversaw services transition from the Assault Amphibian Vehicle to the new Amphibious Combat Vehicle, authored the service level policy for and updated the Underwater Egress Training program, and co-led an operational planning team focused on modernizing the Marine Corps Water Survival Training Program.
Major Giger was selected to return to Marine Barracks Washington and assumed Command of Guard Company in June of 2023. He relinquished Command of Guard Company and assumed duties as the Operations Officer in January of 2024. He was promoted to his current rank on 30 May 2025 and assumed the duties of Executive Officer on 24 June 2025.
Lieutenant Colonel Giger’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Valor Device and one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He was married on 22 June 2019 to his wife Tricia.
