MARINE BARRACKS, WASHINGTON -- Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate recently shared in honoring the 229th birthday of the United States Marine Corps in separate ceremonies at the House, Oct. 26th, and the Senate, Oct. 27th.

The Cake Cutting Ceremony, featuring Marines from the "Oldest Post," is a tradition celebrating the Marine Corps Birthday, in which the first piece of cake is given to the oldest Marine present, who then passes it to the youngest Marine signifying the passing of tradition. The Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, General William L. "Spider" Nyland, officiated both ceremonies.
