MARINE BARRACKS WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate recently shared in honoring the 230th birthday of the United States Marine Corps in separate cake cutting ceremonies featuring Marines from the “Oldest Post” at the House, Nov. 2, and the Senate, Nov. 3.

These annual ceremonies are part of a Marine Corps Birthday tradition, in which the first piece of cake is given to the oldest Marine present, who then passes it to the youngest Marine, signifying the passing of tradition. The Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Michael W. Hagee, officiated both ceremonies.
