The ceremony at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. starts at 8:45 p.m., beginning with a concert by the United States Marine Band. The Evening Parade, held every Friday evening during the summer, has become a universal symbol of the professionalism, discipline, and Esprit de Corps of the United States Marines. The story of the ceremony reflects the story of Marines throughout the world. Whether they be aboard ships, in foreign embassies, at recruit depots, in divisions, or in the many positions and places where Marines project their image, the individual Marine continually tells the story of the Corps.
Reservations are required for guaranteed access to attend the Evening Parade. Parade reservations must be requested online by accessing the Parade reservations page. Please be prepared to provide a valid email account and telephone number when making the online reservation.
The request should include the name of the party (either group or individual); the number of guests in the party; a return email address; and a point of contact with a telephone number. An alternate parade date should be included in the request in case the first date requested is unavailable. If a date is not available on the drop down menu it means that parade is at max capacity and no longer open to the public.
Confirmation emails will be sent to the point of contact listed in the online request. Please note that due to the high volume of requests it could take up to four business days for Marine Barracks Washington to complete reservation requests. Marine Barracks Washington does not accept reservations via telephone, fax, or regular mail; reservation confirmations will not be sent via regular mail, or fax.
Gates open at 7 p.m. and close at 8 p.m. for guests with confirmed reservations. Guests with confirmed reservations will lose their guaranteed seats if they arrive after 8 p.m. At approximately 8:15 p.m., guests without reservations in the General Admission line are offered unclaimed seats (if available). General Admission line guests are not guaranteed seats.
Note: Groups with 11 or more guests, are required to fill out the group reservation form on the parade reservations website and send it to Marine Barracks Washington Protocol using the instructions on the site. Please note that groups are limited to 200 guests.
Same as last year, due to a change in the uses of Maritime Plaza, guests in cars may NO longer park for free at Maritime Plaza and there are no public parking spaces available at the Barracks. Below are reminders for Maritime Plaza parking:
- Parking is open to personal vehicles only starting at 6:00 p.m.
- No buses or commercial transportation will be permitted.
- A parking attendant will be present from 6:00-11:00 p.m. Each guest is responsible to pay a flat fee of $12.00 by credit card upon arrival. No cash will be accepted.
- Maritime Plaza will CLOSE at 11:00 p.m.
- We will have a shuttle for guests parking at Maritime Plaza.
- Pickup and drop off will be on the corner of M and 12 Sts.
- Buses will run from Maritime Plaza (the corner of M and 12 Sts) to Marine Barracks Washington (the corner of 8th and I Sts) from 6:15-8:30 p.m.
- Buses will run from Marine Barracks Washington (the corner of 8th and I Sts) to Maritime Plaza (the corner of M and 12 Sts) from 10:00-11:00 p.m.

Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., is within easy walking distance (four blocks south) of the Metro's Eastern Market exit (blue/orange/silver lines) at Pennsylvania and 8th Street, SE. A variety of restaurants and shops are conveniently located along the way to the "Oldest Post of the Corps."
Due to weather, parades can be cancelled. Because Marine Barracks Washington D.C. is dedicated to showcasing ceremonial excellence, typically a Sunset or Evening Parade will not be canceled until right before show time. Please note that weapons are not permitted at Marine Barracks Washington, except for officially credentialed federal law enforcement agents, to include D.C. Metropolitan Police. Any form of weapon, to include, but not limited to, knives, pocket tools, firearms, stun guns, batons and mace, will be confiscated prior to any Evening Parade. Nonfederal law enforcement officials may turn side arms over to the Barracks guards prior to the parade. Any other visitors carrying firearms will not be permitted to enter. Any confiscated items will be held by Barracks guards and returned at the conclusion of the parade.
SUNSET AND EVENING PARADE - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
Q – Do I need a reservation to attend a Friday Evening Parade at Marine Barracks Washington, DC?
A - Seating for the Evening Parade generally requires a reservation. Parade reservations must be requested online by accessing the Parade reservations page (requires e-mail). Telephonic and faxed reservations will not be accepted.

Q – Do I need a reservation to attend a Tuesday Sunset Parade at the Lincoln Memorial?
A – No. Reservations are not required to attend the “Sunset Parades” at the Lincoln Memorial. It is open seating, you can also bring lawn chairs to this event.
Q - I have tried to log on to the parade reservation website but I receive the following error message: “This page is not a secure site” or “the server is not connected”.
A – You could receive an error due to a number of reasons. One could potentially be your internet browser. So first try using a different one.
If you received the following error message: “This page is not a secure site”. This can do with the DOD SSL certificate. Unfortunately, this only allows access to the site with HTTPS:// at the moment not every user outside of DoD has this certificate and therefore the certificate is not recognized on the users end.
The user’s browser will “warn” the user that there is a conflict in the cert. This is the point where the user can click “advanced” or “ok” and continue to the site.
It is a safe site, and by clicking ok to continue it will take you to the reservation page.

Q - I made my parade reservation request on the website, but have not received my confirmation e-Ticket.
A - If you have made Evening Parade reservations on-line, and did not receive an e-mail response by two weeks prior to the dates requested, please contact our office for confirmation and any additional information.
Q – The date(s) I am looking to attend are not published on your website.
A – If the date(s) you are looking for are NOT published on our reservation website that means those date(s) are not available. There is either no parade scheduled for that day or that particular parade has already reached maximum capacity.
Q – I have a large group that I would like to bring to the parade.
A – For groups with 11 or more guests, (max is 200 per organization), you will need to send a group reservation Form to: M_MBW_PROTOCOL@usmc.mil.
Telephonic and faxed reservations will not be accepted.

Q – Can I bring in food and drinks to parade venue?
A – No food or beverages are permitted with the exception of water and baby food/bottles.
Q – What is your policy on wearing concealed weapons?
A – No weapons of any kind, including knives are allowed inside the Barracks. As a security precaution, all guests entering the Barracks pass through magnetic detection devices.
Q – What is your policy on service animals?
A – Military Working Dogs (MWD) are used to screen guests during parades, service animals must be kept on a leash at all times and cannot interfere with the MWDs.
Service animals must be identified as service animals. NOTE: at various parades during the year, we fire live cannon shots, this may startle some service animals, so appropriate hearing protection should be used.
Q – I would like to bring a large military group to eat at the Chow Hall. Is it available?
A – Requests for military groups are reviewed on a case by case basis and if services are available. You can contact the Chow Hall at 202-433-2145 for more information.
