Colonel Tomich graduated from St. Xavier University and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in September 1993.

After completing The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course, he served as Rifle Platoon Commander, Weapons Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. Following a deployment, he served as the regiment’s Regimental Reconnaissance Platoon Commander. Upon promotion to Captain, he was assigned to 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion as the Assistant Operations Officer.

Transferring to Marine Corps Security Force Company Bangor, WA in July 1998 he served as Platoon Commander and Guard Company Commander. He then attended the Armor Officers Advanced Course in Fort Knox, KY. In October 2001, he served as a Company Commander with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA. He deployed with Battalion Landing Team 2/1 with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) on a WESTPAC deployment, and engaged in combat operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In July 2003, he was assigned to 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion where he served as the Inspector Instructor for Company C, Riverton, UT. In June 2007, after graduating from the Naval Command and Staff College in Newport, RI, he was assigned to Headquarters, Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR) in Stuttgart, Germany. Serving as Eastern European Regional Engagement Branch Chief he deployed as CDRUSEUCOM's Emergency Action Team Leader during the Russian invasion of Georgia and Operation Assured Delivery. He also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the ISAF SOF Deputy Operations Officer.

He returned to 7th Marines In the spring of 2010, and again deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). He served as the Director of the Regional Command Southwest Special Operations Command and Control Element. In January 2011 he assumed command of 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines and deployed in support of the 31st MEU in June 2011. In October 2012 the unit again deployed to Helmand Province Afghanistan in support of OEF. In May 2013, he attended the Army War College in Carlisle, PA and then transferred to Marine Forces Central Command where he served as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations.

He is married to the former Kathleen Reynolds and has two children Madeline and Jack.
